چکیده

TerraSAR-L is the new imaging radar mission of the European Space Agency. The platform, based on the novel Snapdragon concept, is built around the active phase array antenna of the L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (L-SAR). Specification of the L-SAR has been guided by careful analysis of the product requirements resulting in a robust baseline design with considerable margins. Besides having a commercial role for the provision of geo-information products, TerraSAR-L will contribute to the Global Monitoring for Environment and Security (GMES) initiative and serve the scientific user community. Major application areas are: Kyoto inventory and wetland monitoring, solid earth science including seismic and volcanic activity as well as land slides and subsidence, land cover classification in different levels of detail and marine applications. The TerraSAR-L operations strategy is based on a long-term systematic and repetitive acquisition scenario to ensure consistent data archives and to maximise the exploitation of this very powerful SAR system.

Achieving the Evinsar Objectives with Terrasar-l

An L-band InSAR mission, EVINSAR, was proposed to ESA’s Earth Explorer Opportunity Mission programme in 2002 that would measure the strain cycles associated with earthquakes/tectonism and volcanoes. Although not funded the concept was encouraged by ESA and the EVINSAR Science Team was asked to study how the science requirements of EVINSAR could be met by the proposed TerraSAR-L mission. The EVI...

Results from Terrasar-x Geometric and Radiometric Calibration

As TerraSAR-X, due for launch in June 2007, will be an operational scientific mission with commercial potential, product quality is of crucial importance. The success or failure of the mission essentially depends on the calibration of the TerraSAR-X system ensuring the product quality and the correct in-orbit operation of the entire SAR system. This paper describes the calibration procedures fo...

The TerraSAR-X Mission

The German national SAR-satellite system TerraSAR-X is based on a public-private-partnership agreement between the German Aerospace center DLR and EADS Astrium GmbH. It is the continuation of the scientifically and technologically successful radar missions X-SAR (1994) and SRTM (2000) and is designed for scientific and commercial applications. The TerraSAR-X features an advanced high-resolution...

A European L-Band SAR for Environmental Monitoring

The Phase B definition study of the TerraSAR-L mission concluded with a solid baseline design for a future European L-Band Synthetic Aperture Radar (L-SAR). Besides a major contribution to applications in the area of climate change, the system design responds specifically to requirements from interferometric applications. Most important applications of L-band SAR are monitoring of seismic and v...
